Variables

There are several type of variables; Environmental, header and user defined.

Header Variables:

Once a scan has been loaded, you may query or modify a header variable.

Linuxpops(C) >>

You may query an individual variable:

Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> p restfreq
HEADER: restfreq = 90979.0000000000000000
Linuxpops(C) >>

And, on occasion, you can modify a HEADER variable, although the modified variable will be over-written on the next get operation. You will be warned if a HEADER variable is changed.

Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> restfreq = 90000.0
Linuxpops(C) >> # CAUTION: ******* Setting HEADER variable: 'restfreq' ********
Linuxpops(C) >> # Setting Header Variable restfreq to 90000.000000
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> p restfreq
HEADER: restfreq = 90000.0000000000000000

Environmental Variables:

See discussion on the Environment here: LinuxPops Environment Commands

Environmental variables are ones that can be changed to suit the user and are used to control the behavior of LinuxPops. A few of the environmental variables are internally modified / set by LinuxPops during the course its use,, but most remain untouched save for direct user actions.

Here is a listing of current variables and a brief description of their purpose:

NOTE: Variables are being added all the time, so this list may not be up to date.

User Defined Variables:

Users can define their own variable, up to MAX_DYN_VARS, 2048.

Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> double realbignumber
Linuxpops(C) >> # New Variable: realbignumber
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> realbignumber = 1.2345e12
Linuxpops(C) >> # Setting realbignumber to 1234500000000.000000
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> print realbignumber
DVar: realbignumber = 1234500000000.0000000000000000
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> int counter
Linuxpops(C) >> # New Variable: counter
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> counter = 128
Linuxpops(C) >> # Setting counter to 128
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> p counter
DVar: counter = 128
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> counter = 12 * 24
Linuxpops(C) >> # Setting counter to 288
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> counter = noint
Linuxpops(C) >> # Setting counter to 80
Linuxpops(C) >>

Variable Manipulation:

All variables, with the exception of characters strings and numerical arrays, can be modified using the assignment function: '='. There are functions that handle string setting. (And we are working on that Array issue...)

Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> tsyslimit = 500.0
Linuxpops(C) >> # Setting tsyslimit to 500.000000
Linuxpops(C) >>

You can use any variable in equations:

Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> double realbignumber
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> realbignumber = pi * 2.0
Linuxpops(C) >> # Setting realbignumber to 6.283185
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> print realbignumber
DVar: realbignumber = 6.2831853071795862
Linuxpops(C) >>
Linuxpops(C) >> p /e realbignumber
DVar: realbignumber = 6.283185e+00
Linuxpops(C) >>
