CAMAC Progress Report Week Ending: May 10, 2002 Week: 67 Tom Folkers: Tom Sargent: 1. Finished the test code that allows positioning the telescope just in front of the solar avoidance zone. Positions so close to the solar avoidance zone are an interesting test of the sun avoidance logic and revealed a couple of bugs in it, which I have fixed. The sun hiding code seems to work now, but still needs more testing. It has 2 stages: first it tries to move the telescope to whatever clear area can be reached the quickest. After it is clear, then it moves to an azimuth that is substantially numerically lower than that of the sun, or far enough in the northwest so that the sun can't ever reach it. I still have to address the case where only one axis drive is working. 2. Bill has added position and time logging features to the fahren program so that I can use my simulator in the lab at the same time to compare the tracking of the 2 systems. I verified I can access and download the logs that it creates. We will check this further next week. 3. I have had a minor problem with accounting for the movement of the solar avoidance zone during a long slew. This was especially troublesome when moving the telescope to a fixed position since the relative motion between the two could exceed a degree. The solution was to expand the solar avoidance zone by an amount equal to the solar motion over the time interval that the slew requires. This is computational very simple and seems to work well in practice. Pete Hubbard: 1. Differential line driver and receiver PC board design. 2. Ordered TI sn 65LBC172 and sn65LBC172 chips.
