CAMAC Progress Report Week Ending: January 18, 2002 Week: 51 Tom Folkers: 1. No report. Tom Sargent: 1. The pointing model software needed to be re-done. I studied the 12m pointing model code for a couple days to figure out how to implement the SMT pointing corrections with minimal disturbance to the existing code. This was completed. The results look reasonable but haven't been checked in detail. 2. The refraction calculations were getting zeroed, basically because in the lab we don't have any weather station reporting so atmospheric variables (temp, pressure, etc.) are all 0. I studied the higher level 12m code and got the atmospheric parameters initialized to reasonable non-zero default values. The program now computes refraction that looks OK, though it hasn't been checked. 3. Tried to refine the slewing algorithm. I think that for long slews (> 10sec.) it may not be calculating the final target position as accurately as it could. In the time it takes to do a long slew, the target can move a large distance. I tried having it recalculate the target position during the last phase of the slew, but the results, in the simulation at least, were not clearly better than previously. There may be another source of error on the order of 10 - 20 arcseonds. This needs some further investigation. Pete Hubbard: 1. Building a board to test AD8571 zero-drift amplifier. Samples are coming next week for testing. Dave Ashby: 1. No Report.
