CAMAC Progress Report Week Ending: March 16, 2001 Week: 7 Tom Folkers: 1. New BSI rack mounted computers arrive. Spend several days getting Linux installed, checking them out. 2. Turns out RedHat Linux 7.0 has major issues a far as the kernel code is concerned. It seems that there is a mix of 2.2.x and 2.4.x code present at the same time. Bottom line is you can not easily work on kernel drivers. 3. Spent more time reinstalling RedHat 6.2 Linux in BSI computers. 4. New control computer, smtcont, arrives. This is a dual monitor Linux machine and as such getting the Xserver and display drivers sorted out is taking some extra time. On the other hand it appears to be a screaming machine. 5. One of the BSI computers has a bad habit of locking the keyboard at random times. We know of no other way to unlock it except to power off the whole machine. A call to the tech support nets us only a RMA number. I ship it back on Friday, ironically the same day the 4th. BSI computer arrives. Tom Sargent: 1. This week, since we received the Tracker/Servo computer and the PC/104 adapter, I was able to get the linux driver for the IRIG interface running. The IRIG interface is also now producing the precision 2KHz signal that will be used to sample the shaft encoder output, and the 10 Hz signal for the SAM bus. 2. I need yet to add one or two ioctl calls and then the driver will be done. Pete Hubbard: 1. Received quote from Pittman on 26 mm motors. 2. Berg catalog arrived picked six beam flex coupling for hooking motor to Rod 456 encoder. 3. Krupp rack continuing with interface with new electronics. 4. Helping Tom Sargent with IRIG Interface hardware in the lab
