CAMAC Progress Report Week Ending: July 20, 2001 Week: 25 Tom Folkers: 1. Harry Fagg and myself flew to UMass to investigate the filter banks and spectrometer they are offering to sell to us. This took up the entire week. Tom Sargent: 1. Studied Bill Peters' description of the servo algorithm used in the existing SMT system. It required very little adaptation to fit in to the 12m software. 2. Changed the name of the Linux host servo program (and several associated files) from smtSL.c to servo.c. Changed the name of the DSP resident code (and several associated files) from tracker.c to track.c to avoid confusion with the existing 12m software. Updated some documentation and made backups. 3. Pete connected the 16-bit DAC output from the smtts to the DC motor driving the encoder in our test set up. Running the 12m tracker program and using the old SMT servo transfer function, it is able to close the loop. The displayed position error is in the +-5 arcsec range. This is pretty good considering that the motor being used does not like to run at low speed and the linkage from the motor to the encoder has a lot of torsional spring in it. Pete Hubbard: 1. Mux board wiring under way. Had to barrow sockets to complete wiring. 2. Drawing schematic in Orcad capture. Learning to use release 9 a windows version very different from older version. 3. Designed a buffer amp to drive the micro-motor that turns the Rod encoder. This allowed closing the loop. First we started with a gain of one, then increased it to two and found about one half the error in tracking. Dave Ashby: 1. No Report.
