CAMAC Progress Report Week Ending: July 06, 2001 Week: 23 Tom Folkers: 1. At site testing the new antenna crate computer. Results look very promising. 2. Took a couple of days vacation. Tom Sargent: 1. July 2 we hauled everything to the SMT and got the computers reconfigured and connected to the elevation encoders. 2. The basic encoder reading logic appears to work. RMS noise in the elevation encoders seems to be around 0.01 or 0.02 compared to 0.0006 seen with test signals from the signal generator. 3. We captured and saved raw encoder data for normal drive rates, and for a couple of slew operations. We also captured a reference pulse. The reference looks quite different from the description in the original AXPUG documentation. All the captured data indicates noise levels of about +-20 or +-30 counts out of a range of about +-13000, which is higher than expected. This may improve in the final hook up. The telescope shows some interesting ringing effects when it is stopped at the end of a slew. 4. We tested the input parallel port at the SMT and it appears to work. 5. I altered the reference pulse detection to find the center (minimum) of the reference pulse (rather than just detecting a threshold). This is because the reference pulse is so much wider than we expected. I also added a reference pulse report to the DSP to host communication code. 6. Given the noise in the signals I added some "Schmitt trigger" logic to the zero crossing detection software. Pete Hubbard: 1. At SMT for encoder testing. Encoder #2 had much higher output than encoder #1. The encoder ref signal had a higher gain then what was tested in the lab at U of A. The gain was 23 and not to overload the A/d's the gain was reduced to 5. 2. Hooking up the electronics rack at U of A for testing after the visit to SMT site. All hardware still working after the trip back. 3. Started board layout for counter mux board. Dave Ashby: 1. No Report.
