CAMAC Progress Report Week Ending: February 23, 2001 Week: 4 Tom Folkers: 1. Finalized I/O specification for embedded computer systems. 2. Placed order for remaining hardware. 3. Investigating availability of Linux drivers for I/O cards. Tom Sargent: 1. I debugged the programs to correct encoder output for offset, amplitude and phase error. The programs use 32-bit floating point because the T.I. chip is restricted to either 32-bit or 40-bit floating point. Using synthetic data, accuracy of all the correction factors is at least 6 digits when using 1000 sample points per sin/cos wave. At 100 points/wave it drops to about 3 digits. 2. Studied least squares methods for fitting ellipses. 3. I am learning how to write a driver for Linux to be able to port the existing I/O drivers written for kernel version 2.0 to kernel version 2.2. There are significant difference. Pete Hubbard: 1. Mounted focus mirror motor and set hardware for maximum resolution and low speed operation. Lots of jitter. 2. Borrowed servo gear box from tech group used for 90" encoder testing. Used a small Globe DC motor and gear box to turn the Rod456 encoder at slow speed. No noticeable jitter at .5 Hz. 3. Looking for precision flexible couplings to complete design.
