CAMAC Progress Report Week Ending: August 10, 2001 Week: 28 Tom Folkers: 1. Spent most of the entire week moving the CAMAC computer equipment and my office to the basement. 2. Lots of time spent getting the whole system set up. Including problems getting the tracker/servo computer up and running. I think most of the problems were pilot error, but it just goes to show how complicated this system has become. I think more effort will be needed in labeling and documenting the interconnecting wiring. Tom Sargent: 1. Changed the DSP to send index pulse reports whenever it sees the index pulse regardless of what direction it is moving in or whether it uses the index to reset its cycle counters or not. The servo program on the Linux host also now copies this information into global memory so other tasks will be able to automate the process of finding the fiducial index and calibrating the telescope position. 2. We moved from the 4th floor to the basement. After reconnecting everything, the servo program no longer worked. It turned out to be at least 3 different problems. First the IRIG driver got confused (possibly by being started without the IRIG signal in place) and needed to be reloaded. Second we had some cables switched around. We're trying to fix the labeling and documentation to prevent this. Thirdly, I believe the 16-bit DAC just got into a confused state and needed to be powered off and on again. 3. Added to servo an automatic sanity check of the DSP's dynamically computed correction factors. This is performed every 20 seconds. If the offsets, gains or phase error get out of range, it will generate warning messages. 4. Did some long over due reformatting of position report and correction report print outs. Pete Hubbard: 1. Parts that were machined picked up from shop. Started mounting the power supply and fuse holder with line filter for power input. Also back panel connectors and Mux board. 2. Bringing up Tracker after the move to the new lab. Problems with booting, only unipolar out of D/A board. The servo can't find lock when passing through source position. 3. Made a BNC to LEMO cable to allow D/A output to feed one of the 12 bit A/D channels for starting the tracker servo's course position. 4. Made a differential output source for testing each channel of the Mux chassis. The Mux chassis has all channels working properly in the lab. Dave Ashby: 1. No Report.
