It was submitted by Daniel Espada (despada@asiaa.sinica.edu.tw) Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 19:38:05 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Program: AS-E1 Telescope: 12m Receiver: 3mmhi (MAC and FB as backends) DateOfRun: 4, 5, 18 and 19 May 2007 phone: +886-2-3365-2200, ext. 777 Manuals: -Usually the manuals are found to be out of date, and a bit confusing. -Wiki webpage seems to be a step forward but still not complete. Equipment: -One of the receiver crashed just before the observations, they had to warm, fix a seal and cool it again. 1 day and half was lost due to this, but two days were kindly re-scheduled later (18-19 May). -Channel 2 seems to be useless most of the time, very unstable. It seems that tuning is very non-deterministic. -Many bad channels are also found in FB. -Overhead time was understimated for the amount of time that takes to tune (~10 min.) plus the time that takes to check the spectrum on a test source (~5 minutes more). -Software: remote control system is outstanding. Support: -All the operators were found to be helpful and willing to give useful comments to improve the efficiency of the observations. -A solution to the rx problem was given quickly. Objectives: -Still to analyze the data carefully, but almost all the sources have been observed (85 %). However, sensitivity considerably decreases due to the Ch 2 problem and this could affect to the final results (tentative detections could have been confirmed). Problems: -Mainly ch.2 was not useful. -Overheads due to re-tuning, could be more efficient for this kind of extragalactic surveys. Resolved: -Unfortuantely ch.2 problem was not solved. Hours_lost_weather: -only a few hours Hours_lost_equipment: -1 day and a half due to rx problem but it was re-scheduled. Suggestions: -Update the cookbooks. -Inform about the current status of the instrumentation carefully to allow a better quantification of the required observing time. -More efficiency in overheads. For example, is not fully understood why it is necessary to check focus everytime pointing is performed. Re-tuning takes too long, probably saving the settings from previous observations would be more efficient. -Difficult to find spectral surveys for test sources. A compilation from previous observations would be helpful. Others: kuan@alioth.geos.ntnu.edu.tw
