12 Meter TIH April 2006

Submitted by: Tatsuhiko Hasegawa

Program:

AS-H6

Telescope:

KP12m

Receiver:

3mm high

DateOfRun:

April 9, 10, 11 (2006) MST

Phone:

+886-2-3365-2200 ex722

Manuals:

OK

Equipment:

Xremote works fine. 3mm high tunes to 113 GHz fine.

Support:

Start-up overheads are short . Very good. Took only 20 min to tune to 113GHz. TO was Karen.

Objectives:

Yes. In dense starless cores, C18O does not show an emission peak. Dust continuum and N2H+ and NH3 show clear peaks. CN (1-0) shows emission peaks at the dust peaks in 4 dense cores out of 7 observed.

Problems:

UNIPOPS crashes (on modelo) when RESHOW is issued (It is not a big problem.). Xremote opens a terminal for LINE or CLASS, but this particular terminal is extremely slow. I no longer use Xremote to start LINE or CLASS . Instead, I open a second ssh session to modelo and run LINE or CLASS. The baseline ripples of Ch2 of RX3mmHigh still show up in the freq switching mode. The ripple wavelength is about 19MHz in standard spectra. Amplitudes are about 0.2 - 0.3 K . My lines are narrow (0.2 km/s), so that the effects are not serious. In the position switching mode (Ori standard spectrum), Ch2 is as good as (or sometimes better than) chan 1. No ripples. In the beam switching mode (planets spectral standards), Chan2 is not as good as Ch1, but there is no ripple. These are all at 113.49GHz (CN 1-0). IN December 2005, similar ripples appeared in freq switch mode in ch1 and ch2. At that time, both ch1 and ch2 generated similarly OK baselines for standard spectra of planets in the BSW mode. The Orion spectra were good in both ch 1 and ch2 in the pos SW mode.

If you are interested, here is a list of standard scans in /obs/tih/ :

Dec 2005 (113.49 GHz, 3mm High).

  1. Mars (beam sw) scan 05, 78 .
  2. ORIONA (relative pos sw AZ) scan 06, 167 .
  3. TMC2 (freq switching 1.40MHz) scan 07, 79-82, 168.
  4. April 2006 (113.49GHz, 3mm High).
  5. Venus (bmsw) scan 346, 426.
  6. ORIONA (rel pos sw AZ) scan 278, 377, 463.
  7. TMC2 (fsw 1.40MHz) scan 269-272, 347-350, 427-429.

These are not complaints. I greatly appreciate your efforts to improve the performances of the receivers.
