TO ALL REGARDING NEW EMERGENCY POWER TRANSFER SYSTEM During the summer shutdown this year the whole system was revamped. The system will now function completely automatically without any orator intervention. It is also possible to manually control this system to some extent at the operators whim. The various need-to-knows are described below. AUTOMATIC OPERATION [ BOTH CONTROL SWITCHES ARE IN THE AUTO POSITING ] If the cower should fail for a continuous period of about four to five seconds the ONAN GENERATOR will start and about ten seconds after it has established itself the site load will transfer to ONAN GENERATOR. The system will then monitor the commercial until commercial power has been uninterrupted for twenty to twenty-five minutes, at which time the site load will transfer back to commercial power and the ONAN GENERATOR will, run for two or three minutes unloaded and then shut down. The system will be all ready to do the whole thing again. WAYS YOU MAY CONTROL THE SYSTEM The switch labeled [ MAN AUTO ] may be turned to MAN. This will simulate a commercial power failure causing the system to start the automatic sequence described above. As long as the switch remains in this position the site load will remain on the ONAN GENERATOR. If the site load is already on the ONAN GENERATOR this a may be moved to MAN so as to keen the site load from transferring back to commercial power until the operator decides it is convenient to make that transfer. The switch labeled [ AU10 RESET ] only works if the other switch [ MAN AUTO ] is in the AUTO position and commercial power is available. This momentary switch when turned to the RESET position and released will cause the site load to IMMEDIATELY transfer back to commercial power and the ONAN GENERATOR to shut down after two or three minutes. SCENARIOS FOR USUAL OPERATION OP THE SYSTEM Lightning storms in the area or frequent power glitches. Turn upper switch to MAN - the ONAN GENERATOR will start and will load as described above. When the storm or glitches are no longer a factor, return upper switch to AUTO and use the RESET switch to transfer the load back to commercial power. The ONAN GENERATOR will wind itself down as described above. The system starts on it's own, you wish control when the load will transfer bank to commercial power. YOU GET THE IDEA !!!!! TRIVIA There is a red indicator lamp on the ONAN GENERATOR control panel which will lights whenever the site load is on the generator system. The only way to completely defeat the system is to turn the switch on the ONAN GENERATOR panel at the generate site to off. If after you nave transferred the load to commercial power, but the ONAN GENERATOR is still running, the power should fail again, the transfer back to the CATERPILLAR GENERATOR would be immediate and the whole sequence would be started again.
